Whistle Stop Festival 2009: Exclusive iPost To-Do List
Friday, September 25, 2009 at 12:50PM Thanks to Johnny Moore's bucket truck skills, and the watchful eyes of Mark Powell, Anthony Bollen and Richard Franklin (not shown) of the Irondale Public Works Dept. we're officially ready for the Eighteenth Annual, Whistle Stop Festival on Saturday, September 26th, 2009 by the train tracks in historic downtown Irondale, Alabama.
A slate of new activities have been added to the regular line-up of festival favorites. With something for everyone to enjoy.
The Whistle-Stop Children’s Depot will include pony rides, moonwalk bouncers, face painting, the Rainbow Ring Toss, mini-shuffleboard, giant checkers, a cakewalk, the Pit Stop Challenge, the Quarterback Challenge, and
Choo Choo Train rides around the Whistle-Stop Volcano!
The Whistle Stop Festival is proud to announce for the first time, the Southern Vintage Fire Apparatus Association will be bringing a unique collection of fifteen vintage fire engines to the festival.
Stop by the Irondale Public Library for their annual Whistle Stop Book Sale. You're sure to find some great deals on used books, music, and movies, with all the proceeds benefiting the library.
Kids of all ages enjoy the fabulous display by Smokey City Rails Model Railroad Club inside the Irondale City Hall each year. And you will choo ... I mean, too!
Want a souvenir photo to remember the day? Then come by and dress up in old time, fun and funky costumes at The Whistle-Stop Photo Depot. Have your unique photo taken with your family and friends and get it printed on a mug or t-shirt ready to take home.
Check out The Irondale Historical Society which will be open all during the Whistle Stop Festival. Explore Irondale's rich history in pictures, documents and artifacts from our past. Oh, and you can ask them to show you where the city well use to be? Or maybe they'll let you ring a real steam train bell? Stop by and see.
Also opening its doors to festival attendees is The Studio By the Tracks. Be sure to stop by their art studio in the old Ice House on 20th Street South across from the Whistle-Stop Children’s Depot. You'll find some wonderful original art bargains and be supporting the free classes they provide for children and adults with autism, Asperger's or mental illness.
The festival’s Main Stage will feature a diverse array of performers this year with MC Danny Patrick kicking off the festivities Saturday morning at 9:00 am and the entertainment won’t end until 10:00 pm with headliner, Desert Rose. You can see the full day's schedule by clicking here.
Beer, wine and a wide variety of food and concessions will be served throughout the festival day. The Irondale Café will be open and serving lunch until 3pm.
An ATM machine will be on the festival site for the convenience of attendees.
The Bright House Digital Cafe’ will be located inside the Liberty Center providing free cable television and Wi-Fi access to all festival attendees.
College football, including Alabama @ 2:30 pm and Auburn @ 6:00 pm, will be shown all day at the Liberty Center on a giant 6′ x 6′ projection screen.
