====RECAP AND PREVIEW====
This past Friday night, Shades Valley visited longtime metro rival the Vestavia Hills Rebels. Vestavia Hills came into the game with a 7-1 Region 6 record and an 8-1 overall record, while Shades Valley had a 4-3 Region 7 record and was 6-3 overall. Shades Valley came into the game after a homecoming shutout win over the Pinson Valley Indians while Vestavia Hills defeated Thompson while finishing out the Region 6 championship. The Vestavia Hills game was a matchup of two of the areas most talented running backs with Shades Valley's senior star Fabian Truss and Vestavia Hills' Michael Brown. The battle of the running backs went to Brown as he got three touchdowns while Truss got two. Vestavia ended up winning the game, 28-14. Pending unforseen forfeits by Region 7 playoff teams, this was the final game of the season for the Mounties, who ended the season with a record of 6-4. Region 7 goes into the playoffs with Gadsden City as the champion, Oxford second, Clay-Chalkville third and Hewitt-Trussville fourth. Shades Valley finished in fifth place in the region with a 4-3 record, their first winning region record since 2000. Several futile streaks were broken by the Mounties this year. They got their first winning overall and region record since 2000, their first shutout since 2004, and they snapped a six game series winning streak by Oxford by defeating them for the first time ever. Since Coach Curtis Coleman came to Shades Valley, his Mountie teams have increased by two the number of wins they have had each year, starting with his first year, the Mounties had 0 in 2006, 2 in 2007, 4 in 2008 and 6 in 2009. This was Coach Coleman's fourth year at Shades Valley. He is 12-28 in those four years after previously coaching at Ensley and Huffman. His overall career record is 128-111 in 22 years as a head coach.
There will be a region realignment for the 2010-11 and 2011-12 school years. The realignment is supposed to come out later this week, and I will post a message about any changes to the region we might have when it becomes available.
===REGION PLAYOFF PAIRINGS===
Region 7 is paired with Region 8 for the first 3 rounds of the playoffs. Region 8 consists of Austin, Bob Jones, Buckhorn, Decatur, Florence, Grissom, Hazel Green, Huntsville and Sparkman. The first round matchups are like this- R71-Gadsden City vs R84-Huntsville, R72-Oxford vs R83-Decatur, R73-Clay-Chalkville vs R82-Florence, R74-Hewitt-Trussville vs R81-Bob Jones. All region games were completed for both regions on the 9th week, so the first round pairings are now known before week 10. Home teams for the first round are the 1st and 2nd place teams from Region 7 and 8 (Region 7 is Gadsden City 1st, Oxford 2nd, Region 8 is Bob Jones 1st, Florence 2nd). When the three rounds are over, there will be one survivor left, and they will play the survivor from Region's 5 and 6. That winner will then play the survivor from Regions 1-4 in the state title game at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa the first week in December.
