SVTA presents two inventive pieces in one fun evening!
Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at 5:12PM
"As groups of stars form constellations, so these brief episodes are connected by time and place, as well as by their wistful charm, quirky humor and bracing sense of hopefulness."
THE CAVE by Tim Kelly is a "play in one act" that takes the audience on a journey from playful mood to cryptic message, ancient pictograph to the great Unknown, and then back again … an intriguing exercise in total theatre! Featuring students from SVTA's award-winning basic academy class: Daniel Grimes, Shelby Duke, Laura Beth Cannon, Nathifa Square, Taylor Smith, Sieeda Bryant, Savannah Hudson, Melissa Knight, Seth Peacock, Eliee'ah Smith, Haley Baker and Lacey Alexander. Directed by Janice Sanders.
ALMOST, MAINE -- on a cold, clear, moonless night in the middle of winter, all is not quite what it seems in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine. As the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, Almost's residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways. Happy and not-so-happy romances seem as abundant as the stars twinkling in the deep blue sky. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. But the bruises will heal, and the hearts will mend -- ALMOST! With an all-star student cast from SVTA's acclaimed theatre academy: Elliot Cleverdon, Catherine Vining, Kaylynn Johnson, Patrick May, Reid Watson, Allison Shackelford, Stephen Tsimpedes, Laura Beth Cannon, Doug Henry and Melissa Knight. Co-directed by senior academy students Andrew Slaughter and Dallas Taylor.

OTHER UPCOMING SHOWS IN SHADES VALLEY'S 2009-10 SEASON:
THE WIZ
April 29 - May 2, 2010
Variety wrote: "THE WIZ remains a multicultural collage of contemporary slang and imagery whose themes speak to the broadest possible audience. Unquestionably, the humor and the heartbeat of the piece remain African-American at their source, but the overall effect is pluralistic and inclusive. In the truest and most positive sense of the phrase, this show is color-blind." THE WIZ -- an epic reworking of Frank L. Baum's "The Wizard of Oz" -- won a 1975 Tony Award for Best Musical, and features the hits "Ease on Down the Road," "Slide Some Oil to Me," and "Don't Nobody Bring Me No Bad News."
